Our Programs

Hillcrest Elementary offers the following programs:

A strong English Language Learners (ELL) program coordinated and delivered by a specially trained ELL teacher to meet the needs of all learners from many diverse backgrounds. Our ELL teacher is Mrs. Sarah Ball.

Challenge program for gifted learners in grades 4 – 5.  Our program follows a theme of “Invent to Learn”.  We study computer programming, robotics, engineering, art and focus on creativity. Mr. Terrence Lim is our Challenge Teacher. Instruction is approximately one hour/week.

Integration of curriculum using Aboriginal perspectives, knowledge, and culture:  Mrs. Cammy Coughlin and Mrs. Janet Seale are  the Aboriginal Connections Coordinators for the school.

A comprehensive Fine Arts program that supports the performing arts through weekly instruction in Music, Dance, Drama, and Strings for the grade 5 students. Mrs. Seale is the Performing Arts teacher. Choir is offered for grades 3, 4 & 5 students, led by Mrs. Seale and Mrs. McConchie. Mrs. Whyte teaches the Strings program to Grade 5 students on Monday and Fridays.

Each year there are a variety of noon hour opportunities for students:

Sketch Club, Stamp Club, Library Squad, Chess Club, Leadership, Lunch Monitors, Tour Guides, and the Coding Club

Sports opportunities run throughout the school year with cross country, soccer, basketball, track, rugby, soccer, swim club and pickle ball.
