Principal’s Message

Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year!

I am excited to begin another great year at Hillcrest! This year will mark my fourth year as principal of this amazing school and my 14th year as an elementary school principal. In addition to being an educator, I am a proud Mohawk woman from the Six Nations Territory near Brantford, Ontario. I enjoy sharing my Aboriginal background and culture with our staff and students, and also embrace the diversity that we have within our own school community. We can learn much from each other, and incorporate the Seven Teachings in all we do at Hillcrest: Respect, Courage, Humility, Love Wisdom, Honesty and Truth.

Hillcrest prides itself on not only a strong academic program, but we also offer opportunities for sports, chess, active play, fine arts, and leadership. This year, our wonderful Parent Advisory Council (PAC) has generously funded a whole school dance program to enhance our physical literacy program. I am sure our students will love this!

I encourage you to be an active part of your child’s education. If you aren’t able to make it in to volunteer, we appreciate all that you do at home to support your child’s education: sending them to school with a healthy litter-free lunch and snack, good footwear for our physical education programs, a quiet space to read or do assignments, and encouragement in their school life. Parents are the first “teachers” in a child’s life and we look forward to our school-home partnerships that develop throughout the years.

Your child(ren) are in a great, safe, and happy place at Hillcrest. We look forward to an awesome year!
